Torii
Artist’s statement
"In every deliberation, we must consider the impact on the Seventh Generation." - The Great Law of The Native American Iroquois.
My work is about the choices we make and how they affect our environment, our lives, and our children's lives.
A torii is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the profane to the sacred.
My piece is a natural version of a torii using cedar logs I have reused from my forest. It is meant to lead the viewer into nature's sacred shrine where they can contemplate their path.
